Portland 2016 was my first World Indoor Championships, and it symbolized for me a big step towards the Olympic Games in Rio later that year. My goal was to earn experience competing against the best in the world, to measure myself against them and make the difficult transition of turning my idols into rivals.
Experience

I competed in the 60m, with little time between heats and semifinals. My preoccupation was on recovering as best as possible between races, focusing on nutrition and rest. Indoor championships are a lot of fun because the stadium is smaller and it feels like the public is right on the track with you.

Fun fact:

While warming up in the hotel on the morning of my competition, I broke my big toe. It served enough of a distraction to make me forget about some issues I was having in my adductors!

Resultados

In the 60m heats I ran a personal best of 6.63, qualifying for the semifinal in an event that I don’t usually specialize in. In the semifinal I equaled my personal best of 6.63, missing the final by a tenth of a second. I feel proud to have raced among some of the greatest 60m sprinters of all time.
