Moscow 2013
For a week before the competition I meticulously prepared what I knew would come in Moscow. I changed my sleep, meal, and training schedules to account for the time difference in Russia, knowing that I would be competing early in the morning. During that week, I applied meditation tools every day, visualized my race and its execution. Once in Moscow, I ran the race of my life, breaking the 200m Spanish National Record for the first time, in 20.47. I also beat many athletes who until that moment had been my idols. It was here where, for the first time, I turned my idols into rivals.
With 20.47 I was 2nd in my heat, qualifying for the semifinal. Once in the semifinal, I placed 5th in my race, and 15th overall.
In the 4x100m relay, the Spanish team finished 4th in our heat, breaking the Spanish National Record with 38.46. For a few minutes we were qualified for the final based on times, but in the last heat another team pushed us out and we finished 9th in the world—just one place from competing in the final.
My first and only World Championships to date, and they were a truly wonderful experience that showed me that the world sprinting elite was within my reach.
