Ibero-American Championships Rio 2016

With the goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Rio, it was invaluable having prior experience running in the Olympic Stadium. In April 2016 I was still loading up in my training and I felt heavy, but I still managed 20.48 in the final, when the Olympic qualifying mark was 20.50. I’ll never forget waiting anxiously for the times to be announced on the scoreboard. When I finally saw that I had qualified for the Olympics, I was overcome with emotion because for the first time I knew with certainty that my childhood dream would come true.
I was 2nd over 200m, running 20.48, and during the awards ceremony I was moved with emotion. I couldn’t contain the tears. On the one hand, I had won my first international medal for Spain in an individual event. On the other, I had achieved my greatest childhood dream. Nothing can prepare you for such a beautiful moment.
